Mom and Roses

I found this pic on Google images  and it reminds me so much of my Mom.  She has a variety of rose bushes in lots of different colors in her front yard and back.  At Springtime and Summer,  she often clips them and arranges them in pretty vintage vases . . the view is always easy on the eyes.   When I was younger I always thought roses were so boring.  I could never see what my Mom would love about them, but I sure do now.   It's funny how much we change as we grow older.

  1. I wrote this in response to a comment to a post on my blog but it also applies to your post regarding your mothers love of roses and why they were so special to her...

It's from St. Exupery's "The Little Prince":

"You're lovely, but you're empty," he went on. "One couldn't die for you. Of course an ordinary passerby would think my rose looked just like you. But my rose, all on her own, is more important than you altogether, since she's the one I've watered. Since she's the one I put under glass. Since she's the one I sheltered behind a screen. Since she's the one for whom I killed the caterpillars (except for two or three for butterflies). Since's she the one I listened to when she complained, or when she boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing at all. Since she's my rose."

  5. Sandy, I'm so glad to have you as a new friend! Thanks for being so quick to share a word of truth, not only on your lovely blog but also when leaving comments. I picked my first rose today. It smelled so good, I almost got teary! I think we might have a lot of things in common.
You have a great weekend too!
